If your plan qualifies, submit for a Verification of Benefits. (VOB)

Once the VOB is complete we have a roadmap for your insurance policy coverage.

Determine if the expected reimbursement is worth billing for.

Birth Centers and Home Birth midwives are almost always out-of-network and default to out-of-network benefits.

Once the decision to proceed with billing services has been made and the invoice has been paid we will help you apply for a GAP exception to get your reimbursement to be covered at in-network rates.


A GAP exception is a request to see if your insurance company is willing to allow for out-of-network providers to be billed and applied to in-network benefits. This changes which deductible applies prior to reimbursement.


This is possible if there are no in-network providers in your area and there is a GAP in coverage as an alternative to a hospital birth.

Gap exceptions take time to be put in place so do not delay reaching out to us so that there is enough time to allow the insurance company to respond.

Now we wait for your little one to arrive earthside.

Let us know when the birth happens so we can proceed to billing on your behalf.

Be sure to add the baby to your insurance policy within 30 days.

We will bill for care rendered and follow up on any inappropriate denials. It's important to remember that insurance companies are profit-driven entities. This can sometimes lead to them denying claims for reasons that may seem unjustified.
